Tasmania "The really bad blokes"

Well we headed to Tasmania and started into 4 days on the road. It was a great time. It was not what we had expected at all, the weather was beautiful and sunny the whole time. It was a bit cooler, but not bad still shorts and T-shirt weather for me (jeans and sweater and knickers and long underwear and undershirts etc for Katie). We started at Port Arthur where the worst of the British convicts were sent to spend the rest of their days. It was really eye opening and showed how a lot of our penal systems were started today. We could look up our last names to see if anyone had come through there from our ancestors, and just so everyone knows... McKenzies = 3, Weenings and Wierengas = 0... hummm what did i get myself into, bloody convicts!

From there we drove the East Coast Escape and went through Hobart, Bicheno, St. Helens and Launceston. Bicheno was a great little sea side town where we saw the parade of fairy penguins, these were little penguins no more than 1 foot tall that come to nest every night after a day at sea. It was something to see, also the beaches and scenery there was quite breathtaking. One morning i had to get into my "budgie smugglers" (this photo is for you Alex per request) to get a nice shell that Katie had spotted at the bottom of a sink hole in the bay. We went early in the morning during low tide so that i could get it, the things i do for convict love (the best kind by the way). In St Helens the beaches were amazingly blue with white sand. We went snorkeling one morning and saw a sea horse hiding in the the kelp. I dove down about 16-20 feet and got right up close, it was around 16" and really cool, it didn't flinch when i went to touch it. After this, we went to Launceston and saw more of the country. If ever in Australia, I would highly recommend Tasmania, it was beautiful.

Nice shorts, mate! I thought those were strictly for under the wetsuit...or we were hoping anyway!

Hi Matt and Katie,
I was pretty sure you would be the next bloggers in the family. In fact, I thought you might beat Rachel to it. Sounds like you're having a great time. Duncan and I are envious!
